Commented Unassigned: Start Button doesn't work period. [11890]

I can assign all buttons and use them normally, but no matter what I assign the start button to, it never works. I'm trying to play Final Fantasy 7 and I can't play without materia, not about to try that challenge. Any help would be appreciated.

There must be something wrong with your controller or your computer because
that game works fine.
