these patches are sent to me by Michał Górny <mgorny at gentoo dot org>. As currently I don't have access to a GNU/Linux box to test these, and I'm not having the time in weekdays for now, it would be better to post these here instead of commit them without testing.
The patches looks good to me, though. And I have the impression that he has much better understanding of autotools than me (who just changed things randomly to make the thing just work in the past, oops) ;)
BTW, The author of the patches also pointed out that CodePlex does not allow direct download with wget without going through web pages, which could be inconvenient for Gentoo, and I think it would be inconvenient for Arch Linux as well.
